Details

Voluma is a newer, more viscous (or thick) dermal filler used to fill and plum loose, sagging areas of the face.  The areas that are most commonly treated include the nasolabial folds (a.k.a marionette lines), the angles of the mouth, the lips, the cheek bones, the cheeks, the temples, eye brows (gives a mini lid lift). Voluma is not used to fill the hollows around the eyes because it is too thick.  Dr. Stolman and Carolyn Sironen, NP, are both VERY experienced in Voluma injections.

What is Voluma made of:  Voluma is made of hyaluronic acid that has more cross-links in its chemical structure than Restylane or Perlane do.  This is what makes it more viscous.  Hyaluronic acid a naturally occuring subtance in our dermal layers of the skin.  Hyaluronic acid holds on to water very efficiently allowing any area into which it is injected to look fuller, plump and more youthful.

What are the potential side effects:  Voluma injection can seldom cause bruising (most common around the eyes), small bumps under the skin, are allergy (Dr. Eberting has never seen a case of allergy to it.)  Very, very rarely, the body can react to Restylane causing permanant granulomatous bumps under the skin.

What our patients think:  Voluma is the bomb for older, sagging cheeks.  It lasts a long time and looks beautiful when injected the right way.  We have numerous repeat customers who love our injection techniques which leave your face looking natural, full, and youthful.  You will need to get used to people asking you how you look so young.

How is Voluma Different from Restylane and Perlane:  Voluma is more viscous and is used in deeper areas to support and buttress sagging skin.  We will often inject a combination of one to three different fillers to get you the best look possible.

On a scale of viscosity/thickness:

Voluma>Perlane>Restylane
